Subarticle A. SchoolONE California Private School Policies
Chapter 1. Vision, Leadership, Faculty and Staff, Resources, Continuous Improvement, and Accountability and Compliance
SchoolONE Policy § 1.6.03. Public Status, Accreditation, and Institutional Claims.
(a) Purpose.
(1) SchoolONE recognizes the importance of accurately communicating its legal status, educational offerings, accreditation efforts, institutional capabilities, and educational innovations to students, families, partners, regulators, accrediting organizations, and the public.
(2) This policy establishes standards for public representations that preserve SchoolONE’s ability to communicate its distinctive educational model, academic rigor, innovation, and future aspirations while ensuring that statements regarding registration, approval, recognitiendorsement, credentials, and institutional status are accurate and not misleading.
(b) California Private School Status.
(1) By submission of the annual private school affidavit under California Education Code § 33190, SchoolONE is a Registered California Private School.
(2) Submission of the affidavit solely establishes that registration status.
(3) SchoolONE shall not interpret or represent, by any means whatsoever, that the State of California, the Superintendent of Public Instruction, the State Board of Education, the State Department of Education, any division or bureau of the department, or any accrediting agency has made any evaluation, recognition, approval, accreditation, certification, or endorsement of SchoolONE or any course unless this is an actual fact.
(c) Accreditation Status and Representations.
(1) SchoolONE may state that it is pursuing accreditation through the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, Accrediting Commission for Schools.
(2) SchoolONE may describe its accreditation efforts, accreditation pathway, self-improvement activities, preparation activities, and participation in accreditation-related processes in a manner that accurately reflects the actual status of those activities.
(3) SchoolONE shall not represent that it is accredited, approved, recognized, endorsed, or granted candidacy by any accrediting organization unless such status has actually been granted.
(4) If an accrediting organization grants SchoolONE a formal status, SchoolONE may represent that status accurately and consistently with the status actually granted.
(d) Institutional Scope and Diploma Programs.
(1) SchoolONE offers diploma programs up to the secondary level, including a high school diploma.
(2) SchoolONE is a secondary educational institution and is not a tertiary, postsecondary, undergraduate, graduate, or postgraduate degree-granting institution.
(3) SchoolONE may provide advanced educational experiences, coursework, projects, seminars, mentorship, research, and other learning opportunities that operate at a tertiary, quaternary, or otherwise advanced level while remaining part of a secondary educational program.
(4) The level of academic rigor, complexity, or subject matter of a learning experience does not by itself determine the institutional level or credential authority of SchoolONE.
(e) Advanced Learning and External Recognition.
(1) SchoolONE may describe advanced learning opportunities using accurate terms that communicate educational rigor, complexity, innovation, or preparation for future study.
(2) SchoolONE may offer educational experiences comparable in rigor or intellectual scope to advanced secondary, tertiary, or postgraduate learning when such experiences are consistent with SchoolONE’s educational purposes.
(3) SchoolONE shall not represent that such experiences constitute postsecondary degrees, undergraduate degrees, graduate degrees, postgraduate degrees, or externally recognized academic credentials unless this is an actual fact.
(4) SchoolONE may communicate that coursework, projects, competencies, or learning experiences may be considered, reviewed, or recognized by external institutions, provided that SchoolONE does not imply that another institution has granted such recognition unless that recognition has actually occurred.
(f) Professional Development and Internal Learning.
(1) SchoolONE may provide professional development, training, research opportunities, and advanced learning experiences for educators, mentors, guides, staff, partners, or other participants.
(2) Such professional development may operate at a tertiary, quaternary, postgraduate, or otherwise advanced level of learning.
(3) Internal professional development and advanced learning opportunities do not make SchoolONE a tertiary or postsecondary institution unless SchoolONE separately establishes such status.
(g) Truthful Enhancement of Public Communications.
(1) SchoolONE may describe its educational model, programs, methodologies, outcomes, innovations, partnerships, accreditation efforts, advanced learning opportunities, and institutional goals in a manner that accurately communicates their quality, rigor, and distinctive nature.
(2) Public communications shall distinguish between:
(A) actual institutional status;
(B) current educational offerings;
(C) accreditation or recognition being pursued;
(D) future goals or aspirations; and
(E) external recognition or approval actually received.
(3) SchoolONE shall avoid statements that create a false or misleading implication regarding legal authority, accreditation status, governmental approval, endorsement, or credential-granting authority.
(h) No Implied Endorsement.
(1) SchoolONE shall not represent or imply that any governmental agency, accrediting organization, educational institution, professional organization, or other entity endorses, approves, sponsors, or affiliates with SchoolONE unless such relationship is an actual fact.
(2) Participation in an application process, membership organization, professional association, public-comment process, educational partnership, or accreditation process does not by itself constitute endorsement, approval, accreditation, or recognition.
(i) Responsibility for Public Representations.
(1) SchoolONE shall ensure that official publications, websites, marketing materials, admissions materials, partnership communications, and other public statements are consistent with this policy.
(2) Employees, representatives, contractors, and other persons communicating on behalf of SchoolONE shall use accurate descriptions of SchoolONE’s status, programs, accreditation efforts, and educational offerings.
(j) Interpretation.
(1) This policy shall be interpreted to preserve SchoolONE’s ability to communicate its educational excellence, innovation, advanced learning opportunities, and institutional development while preventing inaccurate or misleading representations.
(2) Nothing in this policy prohibits SchoolONE from promoting the quality, rigor, innovation, or distinctive characteristics of its programs when such statements are truthful and supported by facts.
