The Master Educator learning stack is designed for educators to gain expert competency in how to facilitate successful learning, based on the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and EducateONE's Master Educator standards. Through this, educators gain both a postgraduate education at the equivalent of a master's level, as well as preparation to earn their National Board Certification.

NOTE: Currently the Master Educator program is only available to EducateONE educators. We plan to open this up to the public in the future after achieving DEAC accreditation.

The Master Educator program is designed to have qualified educators learn at a postgraduate level an expertise in facilitating learning, as well as working towards earning a U.S. National Board Certification for teaching (NBPTS) and recognition as a Certified Higher Education Professional in Teaching or Online Teaching (CHEP).

What is a Master Educator?

An educator is someone whose work facilitates learning. We are most used to educators being teachers. BUT teaching via direct instruction is only one way we can facilitate learning, and not necessarily always the best way. So a Master Educator is competent in many ways that learning can be facilitated, which we term the modalities of education, including teaching, but not just direct instruction teaching.

But what makes someone a "master" at educating? The truth is no one ever knows everything, and in fact, a primary indicator of expertise is to know how much you don't know. So we use the widely accurate Pareto 80/20 principle to determine what mastery means, such that Master Educators have true expertise in the 20% of content and competencies that are most important most of the time, and a broad understanding of the other 80%.

Modalities of Education

Mastering each of the following modalities of education is equivalent to 45 credits total, at 3 credits each:

Standards and Certifications

Alignment with DEAC Standards

While currently this program leads to Master Education certification for EducateONE, it ultimately is to be a Master Degree program through UniversityONE, accredited through the Distance Education Accrediting Commission. As such, we are meeting its standards.

Alignment with NBPTS

Since at EducateONE, we do not only focus on direct instruction that is generally implied by the word "teaching" but how we ensure learning through the best modality for the context of the student. As such, we expand the National Board Core Propositions to encompass all of educating as follows:

  1. Educators are committed to students and their learning
  2. Educators know and know how to facilitate the learning of the competencies that they are supporting students to learn.
  3. Educators are responsible for managing and monitoring student learning
  4. Educators think systematically about their practice and learn from experience for continual improvement
  5. Educators are members of learning communities

You can see how the NBPTS certifications align with EducateONE with our Crosswalk between EducateONE and NBPTS.

Alignment with CHEP

Our program recognizes the CHEP competency standards as those needed for all educators, which we have expanded to encompass all forms of educating:

  1. Plan the Facilitation of Learning
  2. Develop Clear Syllabi of Learning Activities
  3. Deliver Content Effectively to Develop Competencies
  4. Create Comfortable Learning Environments
  5. Engage Students in the Learning Process
  6. Implement Effective Learning Activities
  7. Support Diverse Learners
  8. Provide Experiential Learning Opportunities
  9. Model Appropriate Behavior
  10. Manage Student Behavior
  11. Implement Effective Assessments
