== SchoolONE Policy § 2.2.00. Language of Development. ==<br />
(a) Purpose.<br />
<br />
(1) SchoolONE recognizes that effective learning may occur across multiple languages and that competency development may be demonstrated through learning experiences, student work products, and other evidence of learning in the language most appropriate to the educational context.<br />
<br />
(b) Instructional Language.<br />
<br />
(1) In compliance with California Education Code § 48222, direct instruction shall be taught in the English language.<br />
<br />
(c) Language of Competency Development.<br />
<br />
(1) Competencies may be developed in whichever language is most appropriate to the learning context, subject matter, student needs, educational objectives, or demonstration of learning.<br />
<br />
(2) Learning involving a language other than English shall be deemed part of the student’s work product and may be considered as evidence of competency development.<br />
<br />
(3) The use of a language other than English in developing or demonstrating competencies does not diminish the educational value, validity, or recognition of the student’s work product.<br />
<br />
(d) Interpretation.<br />
<br />
(1) This policy shall be interpreted to preserve SchoolONE’s ability to support multilingual learning, language development, and competency-based education while complying with applicable legal requirements concerning instructional language.<br />
