Article III. SchoolONE Private School Policies

SchoolONE Policy § 2.2.01. Competencies Offered.

(a) Purpose.

(1) In compliance with California Education Codes §§ 48222, 51210, and 51220, SchoolONE shall provide instruction in the required branches of study or any other branches of study prescribed by its governing board.

(2) SchoolONE recognizes that California’s statutory subject-area requirements were developed within a traditional course-based educational framework, while SchoolONE organizes learning through competency development in meaningful contexts.

(3) The California branches of study are therefore mapped to EducateONE’s competency-based educational model to demonstrate alignment between statutory subject areas and SchoolONE’s instructional framework.

(4) This mapping does not require SchoolONE to organize learning into traditional courses, grade levels, schedules, or instructional sequences unless required by law, contract, accreditation, or another binding requirement.

(b) Competency Mapping Framework.

(1) SchoolONE shall interpret required branches of study through the following EducateONE framework:

(A) Circles of Context identify the domains in which competencies are developed.

(B) Categories of Competency identify the capacities developed, demonstrated, or applied by learners.

(C) A subject area may map primarily to a context, primarily to a competency, or to a combination of both depending on the nature of the learning.

(2) Not every subject area requires both a context and competency designation.

(3) Knowledge acquisition is inherent in most subject areas and shall not require separate designation as ⒋ 🗂️ Recollection unless knowledge, comprehension, interpretation, or organized understanding is the primary competency being addressed.

(d) Interpretation.

(1) The California branches of study identified in this policy represent required areas of educational competency development and are not interpreted as requiring SchoolONE to replicate a traditional course catalog.

(2) SchoolONE may organize learning through competencies, projects, demonstrations of mastery, interdisciplinary experiences, contextual learning, and other educational models consistent with this policy.

(3) A single learning experience may satisfy multiple California subject areas and may develop multiple EducateONE competencies or contexts.

(4) SchoolONE may determine the appropriate instructional design, sequencing, assessment method, and learning pathway for developing competencies while maintaining compliance with applicable legal requirements.

This policy was developed for SchoolONE’s competency-based educational model to demonstrate alignment between California Education Code subject-area requirements and EducateONE’s contextual competency framework. The policy preserves the statutory branches of study while allowing SchoolONE to organize instruction through competencies, contexts, interdisciplinary learning, and demonstrated learning rather than traditional course-based structures.
